Foto Sampah Laut jadi Pemenang British Wildlife Photography Awards

Penyelenggara British Wildlife Photography Awards telah mengumumkan para pemenang kompetisi tahun ini.

Disebut Ocean Drifter, gambar bola sepak yang mengambang di air dengan puluhan teritip angsa di bawahnya menjadi pemenang utama.

Foto yang diambil oleh Ryan Stalker ini mengingatkan kita pada foto-foto gunung es yang viral, yang memperlihatkan ukuran gumpalan es yang mengejutkan di bawah permukaan air.

“Di atas air hanya sebuah bola sepak,” kata Stalker tentang gambar yang ditampilkan di atas.

“Tapi di bawah permukaan air ada koloni makhluk hidup.

“Bola itu terdampar di Dorset setelah melakukan perjalanan laut yang panjang melintasi Atlantik.

“Lebih banyak sampah di laut dapat meningkatkan risiko lebih banyak makhluk yang berhasil mencapai pantai kita dan menjadi spesies invasif.”

Tidak jelas dari mana bola itu berasal atau bagaimana bola itu bisa berada di dalam air.

“Saya bertanya-tanya tentang perjalanan yang telah dilalui bola itu,” kata Stalker.

“Dari awalnya tersesat, kemudian menghabiskan waktu di daerah tropis tempat teritip berasal dan mungkin bertahun-tahun di lautan lepas sebelum tiba di Dorset.”

Stalker menerima hadiah utama untuk kompetisi ini, yang menarik lebih dari 14.000 entri.

Dari semua entri tersebut, para juri memilih dua gambar terbaik dalam setiap kategori untuk dicetak dalam buku coffee-table bersampul tebal.
