Popers, MTV Movie & TV Awards sedang menghadapi serangkaian hambatan di tahun ini karena pemogokan Writers Guild of America yang sedang berlangsung. Meskipun acara penghargaan ini akan disiarkan secara langsung pada hari Minggu, namun karena pemogokan tersebut, jaringan ini akan menayangkan acara khusus yang telah direkam sebelumnya, karena beberapa peserta mengumumkan bahwa mereka tidak akan hadir dalam acara tersebut.
